Open Hearts

heartOnce upon a time there was a woman named Didi whose mission in life was to open people’s heart so they could recognize, feel and experience the magic of life.

When she was young, she did this through theatre in New York City. After her spiritual awakening in her 30s, she did this while studying global theology, feminism and social justice. She continued her mission working with the poor and homeless in Johannesburg at a very magical time in South African history.

It was there she recognized that “healing” was a central part of her gift because how could anyone recognize the magic of life if they hadn’t healed old wounds and reversed destructive patterns.

In her late 40s Didi met a teacher who shared with her a vision of a spirituality center in the sacred mountains of Peru, where people from all over the world who practiced many traditions would gather together. She realized this was the place where her mission could be fulfilled so she moved to this magical mountain paradise where she manifested the vision.

Didi’s center of peace and light became a beacon that attracted like-minded travelers who themselves had a mission to assist humanity in a variety of ways. She believed in a force within each of us that longs for expansion – a desire to know and experience new and better things beyond our current awareness.

She taught people exercises using the four elements of nature to link them with Divine Source. When they laid down on Pachamama and gave her all their heavy energy – the energy that kept them trapped in their old stories – Pachamama transformed it into new growth and new life. Didi taught them how the Water soothes and balances, how the Air purifies and enlightens, and allows them to see things from a broader perspective. She taught the people how the Fire can transmute their anger into passion and compassion.

She knew when we release the limitations of the past, we clear the way for a new refined energy to enter which opens our hearts and helps us know we are co-creators, not pawns or victims. She knew from some difficult experiences in her own life that we may not be able to choose all the events we encounter in life but we can choose how we want to respond to them. This, she said, is how we transform difficult situations into opportunities and gifts.

She believed that magic happens regardless of the circumstances of our lives. For her, the most challenging experiences were the most grace-filled, when she was able to shift the quality of her experience simply by changing her perspective about it. And of course, it is much easier to change perspectives, than to change a situation that is outside our control.

Embracing the magic, didn’t mean the situation was what she wanted or always what she hoped for. Yet viewing life from a shifted perspective allowed her to be fully present in the moment where all manner of poignant beauty and possibility awaited her.

She showed people when they accept the situation as it is, they can enter into a sense of freedom, released from the frustration of wishing it to be otherwise. By being still and totally present to the moment, the people could recognize possibilities that were hidden before. As their perspective shifted, they began to feel the magic, where impossibilities became possible, and circumstances became more and better than they’d hoped for.

As she led the people to step out of the drama and into a state of grace, they discovered the gifts and opportunities waiting for them there. They discovered the magic.

And lived happily ever after. Well, almost!
