Isla de Mujeres

Today we’re taking a ferry to Isla de Mujeres, a small island 13 kilometers from Cancun, where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Caribbean Sea. In Pre-Columbian times, the island was sacred to the Maya goddess of childbirth and medicine, Ixchel. Unfortunately, what remained of her temple was destroyed by Hurricane Gilbert in 1988. The island is also known for its beautiful beaches and turquoise water.
