Early this morning I got a call that Kulana, my new bike, was ready for me to pick up. As I strapped her to my friend’s bike rack and headed to Lantana, I heard some news on the radio that the beaches here will open on May 18. Retail stores, hair salons and restaurants are opening this week.
I hope these openings in Florida and other states, will pave the way for more places – like Peru- to open up sooner than they planned. Hopefully people are beginning to recognize freedom of choice and civil rights are just as valuable as public health. When one takes precedence over another, we run the risk of being ruled without any due process or a single law being passed.
In order for us to choose love over force, peace over violence, unity over polarization, we first have to claim and recognize our right to choose how we want to live. There are many things we don’t have control over – like the weather today when I took Kulana out for our first ride with picnic lunch in tow and the sky opened up drenching our plans.
But we do have control over how we respond to the circumstances we find ourselves in. By turning to nature and honoring my own perceptions, I can test if what is being told to me by politicians and the media, rings true or not. When we tune in to our heart center, to our soul, to our divine source, then we can honor our experienced truth, even if it’s not what authority figures are telling us is so.
I’ve learned over the years how to trust my intuition while continuing to explore new possibilities with a willingness to modify. Since I was a child, I’ve had what you might call a ‘healthy distrust’ for the motives of people in charge telling me what to do, when I can sense their primary goal is to control my behavior whether or not it’s for my highest good.
I’m suspicious when a global organization like WHO – elected by no one – can successfully dictate to governments globally, how they should handle their country’s economic, social and educational well being in the name of public health. How can one plan fit every country? Who is benefiting from this level of control over global societies and economies? Certainly not the poor people of the world, who are now poorer than ever.
My heart beats faster, pedalling harder up the hill. I go deeper into myself, longing for not just beach openings but for a cognitive awakening – waking up to the dawning of a new consciousness where we don’t simply take universal orders but encourage creative thinking, consensual problem solving and compassion for people’s lives and livelihoods.
Once we wake up, there is no end to the potential of what we can create together.
