I wonder when it’s extremely windy like today, if the birds find it more difficult to fly. Or maybe they just go in the direction of the wind and get a free ride. I wonder how birds choose what direction they want to go. How do we? Are they always on a mission or do they fly for fun and the freedom of it?
A black raven just landed on the post near my bench. He took off headed out toward the Intercoastal but thought better of it when a strong gust blew him in the opposite direction. He easily changed course and went with the wind.
Neither biking nor kayaking seemed inviting today because going with the wind one way would require going against it to get home. I opted for sitting in the park instead, letting the cool wind whip around me haphazardly.
It’s quiet in May in this tourist town, an in-between time when the “snowbirds” go back north and before the summer vacationers arrive. It’ll be interesting to see if people come this summer and from where. I imagine it’s an in-between month everywhere this May. I wonder if the birds notice any fundamental shift? Do we?
