Beginnings

September has always felt like a new beginning, partly because it’s my birthday month but also because where I grew up, a new school year started in September. In the southern hemisphere where I’ve lived for 33 years (South Africa and Peru), spring is arriving. There are buds on the trees, dahlias popping through the hardened ground, the green shoots of corn raising their heads. New life is presenting itself. New beginnings.
