Anniversary of Paz y Luz

Paz y Luz, my retreat center in Pisac, is 20 years old this month. We began with 4 guest rooms and a listing from Lonely Planet guide book with a land line phone and dial-up email as our only means of communication. Lonely Planet called Paz y Luz “a spiritual place, surrounded by mountains and fields, run by a north American who also organizes mystical tours”. Even though we were one kilometer from town on a dusty dirt road along the river, people started to come.

At the time, I had no other neighbors besides the cows and the corn fields. A year later, I built 8 more rooms and in 2006 we constructed the Temple, our round glass meeting room, and hosted our first interspiritual gathering, with people attending from around the world. It was the first of many events and activities we have held there.

Over the years Paz y Luz has grown to 24 guest rooms, three 2-bedroom bungalows and a spa with yoga and treatment rooms. Much has changed in my neighborhood and the town of Pisac in twenty years but what hasn’t changed are the powerful mountain apus that surround us and the life-changing experiences our guests have in this mystical magical place we call home.
